Early Intervention

Baby crawling

What are the factors that show a child might need early intervention services?

If a child has already been referred, it must be determined if they are eligible for the 0-3 program. They are compared to where other children usually are to determine if there is a delay. There must be a 25% delay, and delays only have to be present in one area. Assessment tools are used to determine if there is a delay, and it is often a good idea to compare different assessments. Half of the referrals a birth to three program receives are related to speech concerns, which are easily accepted by parents, making it easier to ask for help. Sometimes, families start receiving services before the child is born, such as with Down syndrome. Once a child is eligible for birth to three services, they are in the program until they are three years old.
